Offshore Oddity: Lucanus Lures
I’ll be the first to admit that before I read Bob’s feature on this great new fishing system, I didn’t know much about it at all. After you read this one, you will understand it completely and know why this relatively new jig system has proven itself over and over again in the world of offshore and inshore fishing. story

RECENT FIELD EDITOR REPORTS

Hardwater anglers on the Cape had just gotten used to having sufficient ice surface to work with and here we go again with temperatures spiking all over the place, a week's worth of rain melting that ice away and now a blizzard supposedly heading our way early next week. Anybody know what to do with the two feet of new snow we're supposed to get?Sad news this past week with the death of Bill Bauknecht, former long-time owner of Green Pond Tackle Shop in East Falmouth
I spent this past Saturday surrounded by fishing gear at the New York Coalition for Recreational Fishing (NYCRF) Annual Flea Market in Amityville. The fun part about events such as these is that they feature used gear as well as new
It's been ten days since I've been on the water and I'm already getting fidgety. Ten days and I already feel like a little part of me has died! A few single-digit nights followed by 35 to 40-degree daytime air temperatures are just enough to make fishing in South Jersey very difficult
Near zero temperatures have put a nice skim of ice on many of the Cape Ponds but it's still a little early to have too much confidence in the strength of that ice. Definitely try a couple of test holes before setting up shop with heavy gear
There's no mystery why one of the most knowledgeable "Behind the Scenes" bass fishermen I've ever met selects the lures he does whenever he climbs in his bass boat. That man is the friend I've told you about in my past two columns
The Cape these days looks like the inside of granny's deep freeze. Cold, cold and more cold

Happy New Year to all! This is a tough time of year for Long Island surfcasters as we're just about a month into four plus months of very little in the way of shore-bound fishing opportunities. I find the first month goes quickly, as it's a time to recover from the rigors of fall fishing and focus on the holidays
Now that fishing has pretty much cooled down for the winter season, except for those die-hards who'll brave the elements whether aboard open boats heading out for cod and ling or ice fishing their local areas. The lucky few may grab a flight to the Florida Keys
Maybe there isn't a lot of fishing activity on the Cape just now, but that doesn't mean there's nothing going on. For instance, you wouldn't necessarily think there'd be a Cape Cod crime wave based on whose ice cream is best, but think again
Woke up this Christmas morning to a gray, dreary, rainy day with pockets of fog scattered along Washington Street from East Bridgewater to Whitman. But no matter, by the looks of things under the living room Christmas tree, Santa had successfully completed his annual visit and dropped off more than enough presents to fortify a household that would resonate with song, laughter and good cheer throughout the day
